This month’s Student Spotlight feels like a Christmas gift.
As part of the University of Texas Professional Land Management Certificate Program, students complete a capstone assignment that connects coursework with real-world experience. One option is to interview a practicing landman—and Daniel Parker, a new graduate and landman in the program who works for Petro Operating Company, took that opportunity to learn from one of the best.
In the video below, Daniel interviews Peter Scott, a highly respected Denver-based landman with more than 40 years in the oil and gas industry and owner of Land Rights Services. Peter generously shares wisdom gained over a lifetime of landwork—about integrity, communication, stewardship of the land, and the responsibility landmen carry as the industry’s front line.
Especially during the Christmas season, this conversation is a reminder of the value of mentorship, shared experience, and passing hard-earned lessons from one generation to the next. I hope you enjoy this Student Spotlight and the gift of insight it offers.
Now, let’s dive in and hear what Daniel learns from Peter…
